Samhain Camping & Ritual 2018

Join us during the upcoming Hunter’s Moon as we celebrate Samhain!   Enjoy a nighttime Samhain ritual in the woods, community stew, workshops, and fellowship with your community!

 

CAMPING:

We have a group site reserved within 30 miles of Bloomington.  The exact location will be emailed to you after registration. This camping trip is very family-style:food and drink are often shared, and no spots are assigned. Camping is somewhat close together.

 

 

FOOD:

Friday evening meal will be chili (we will have a meat chili and a veggie chili).  Saturday evening we will be sharing community stew.  Please bring along an ingredient for the stew, Ideas for ingredients are: root or other vegetables (no onions please!  We have a member with allergies), stew meats, beans, pasta, canned tomatoes, etc.  We will have a community stew for vegetarians as well!  1-2 cups of your ingredient is plenty!  We will also have a community snack table and would like to keep a couple pots of hot drinks going: please consider bringing apple cider, hot beverage drink mixes (hot cocoa, tea, etc), or snacks to share.  If you are unable to contribute to the community food, you are still welcome to join us & partake.  We do not *ever* want to leave anyone out due to their inability to pay!

 

RITUAL:

Main ritual will be Saturday night, after dark.  If you are planning on coming only to the ritual, please join us as early as possible to meet others and foster a sense of community with all participants.  For main ritual you may need a flashlight and you will need to dress for the weather (prepare to be in the woods, away from fire– lots of layers, warm socks, and boots are suggested).  If you would like to bring a staff or walking stick to help you navigate the terrain in the dark,  you are welcome to do so.   Main ritual is not suggested for those with mobility issues or for children under the age of 13.  If you have mobility issues and would like to participate, please contact us directly.  Once you are registered, you will receive an email with details on how to prepare for ritual.

 

BESOM WORKSHOP:

This make & take workshop will walk you through the steps of making your very own besom! Bring or find the handle for your besom onsite (Please only harvest fallen/dead wood). Materials for the bottom will be provided or bring your own. $10 Material fee.

 

MISCELLANEOUS:

We will have an Ancestors Altar available this year.  You may place photos of Ancestors, tokens of remembrance at the alter.  Tea-light candles will be available to light for ancestors.  You may leave offerings for them as well.  Any items remaining at the close of the event will be left as offerings for the Ancestors. We may hold space for personal rituals Friday evening, if there is enough interest.

 

The cost for weekend camping is $25 per person (13 & up), and $10 per child ages 3-12.  Children under 3 are free.  Cost for ritual only is $5 per person.  Cost for the weekend will cover campsite fees, evening meals, and ritual.  More information as it becomes available.

Join us ’round the maypole for our Beltane Camping trip!  This is event is open to the public.  Enjoy the blessing of our new Maypole, a Beltane ritual, community stew, impromptu workshops and games, and fellowship with your community!  This camping trip is very family-style:  We have a group camping site reserved at Moraine View, food and drink are often shared, and camping is close together.

Blessing of the Maypole Ceremony will be at 10am on Saturday.  The Main Beltane Ritual will be Saturday afternoon at 5pm.  If you are coming only for ritual, please arrive before 2pm, to give yourself time to meet others and get in the community spirit.

2017 Yule Potluck

Join us as we celebrate Yule the best way possible- with food!  Bring a yummy treat to share, and we’ll eat, talk, and be merry!  We’ll be celebrating with our friends at CUUPS and meeting at the Unitarian Universalist Church.

Please make sure to bring a list of ingredients (for those with food allergies) and serving utensils with your dish.  PiT will provide disposable plates, eating utensils, napkins and cups.

If you would like to participate in a gift exchange, bring a gift that is already wrapped.  Gifts do not have to be Pagan-themed.  Spending limit: $10.

If you would like to participate in a cookie exchange, please email me at Amanda (at) pagansintouch (dot) org.  Here’s how it’ll work:  You make just 1 kind of cookie (amt. to be determined) and everyone participating will go home with a plate of various cookies.  I’d love to be able to make a booklet of everyone’s recipes to distribute with the cookie plates too, so if you’re open to sharing the recipe you can email that to me as well.

Friday evening meal will be chili (we will have a meat chili and a veggie chili).  We will have time set aside for community members to do personal ritual for their ancestors, and have the warriors maintaining space. This is expected to be around 8pm.

 

Main ritual will be Saturday early evening, beginning around 5pm.  If you are planning on coming only to the ritual, please join us as early as possible to meet others and foster a sense of community with all participants.  The theme for this year’s Samhain ritual is Savage Community.  Main ritual will include a potluck , please bring a dish to pass, along with a card listing ingredients for those with food allergies.  This year our ritual is a little different- it is open-ended.  We will start a little before sunset, but plan to go on through the night.  Please, dress for the weather (prepare to be in the woods, away from fire for a period of time– lots of layers, warm socks, and boots are suggested).    There will be physical touch & walking through the woods- if you have touch sensitivities or mobility issues, please notify the organizers and we will do our best to make accommodations.

2015 Samhain Camping Trip

MoonJoin us for our annual Samhain Camping trip!  Enjoy a nighttime Samhain ritual in the woods, potluck, impromptu workshops, candlelit labyrinth, and fellowship with your community!  This camping trip is very family-style:  We have a group camping site reserved at Moraine View, food and drink are often shared, and camping is close together.

 

New this year- the candle lit labyrinth will be Friday night.  We will also have a warrior’s ritual and time for personal rituals Friday night.  Saturday evening we will be having a potluck starting around  5:30-6pm.  Please have a card with ingredients listed for those with allergies.  We will be aiming to start Saturday ritual around 7:30-8pm.

Beltane Camping Trip

Join us as we dance ’round the maypole for our Beltane Camping trip!  Ritual will be Saturday afternoon.  We will have a pot-luck Saturday evening.  Please bring a notecard with ingredients listed for those that suffer from food allergies.  Sunday morning breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon and an oatmeal bar is included.

Cost is $20/adult, $5/child 3yr-12yr.  Children under 3 years old are free.  RSVP & payments due by  April 29th, 2015.   The camping event runs from 3pm Friday, May 1st through noon Sunday, May 3rd.
